MEET JEFF HANLEY: DEPUTY PROJECT MANAGER/VERIFICATION

In his current role at Goddard, Hanley is responsible for managing and assessing project planning and execution of the integrated verification program for the Webb telescope.
In addition to his support of the Webb telescope program, Hanley is also remains a member of the senior staff at Johnson Space Center (JSC). He was previously the manager of NASA's Constellation Program, and was tasked with leading development of new spacecraft and launch systems for the purpose of sending astronauts to the Moon, Mars and beyond.
Hanley was chief of the Flight Director Office from January through December 2005. As a member of the Flight Director Office since 1996, Hanley has achieved certification for both the International Space Station and the space shuttle. He has supported several space station assembly missions as a station flight director, and was the lead space station flight director for assembly mission 4A flown by STS-97. Hanley was also the lead flight director for Expedition 1 and lead shuttle flight director for STS-110/space station-8A.
Prior to selection as a flight director in June 1996, Hanley was a space shuttle flight controller for the Payload Operations Branch of the Mission Operations Directorate since 1983; lead Payload Operations Branch project engineer for Syncom-IV-F5, Wake Shield Facility, Tethered Satellite System and Hubble Space Telescope first and second servicing missions.
Hanley received his Bachelor of science in electrical engineering from the University of Houston, Houston, Texas in 1989; Master of science in natural and applied sciences from University of Houston - Clear Lake, Houston, Texas in 1998.
He has received the following awards throughout his career: NASA Outstanding Performance Award, 1989 through 1996; NASA Quality Increase Award, 1989; NASA Sustained Superior Performance Award, 1990; NASA Performance Award, 1991, 1992, and 1993; NASA Silver Snoopy Award, 1993; NASA Exceptional Service Medal, 1993; NASA Exceptional Achievement Medal, 1994; NASA Outstanding Leadership Medal, 2004; NASA Exceptional Service Medal, 2006; NASA Outstanding Leadership Medal, 2007; NASA Distinguished Service Medal, 2010.
Hanley grew up in Bettendorf, Iowa. and he currently lives in Houston, Texas.
