MEET: Richard King Jr., Webb Telescope Business Manager

Richard (Rick) King Jr. is the Business Manager on the James Webb Space Telescope Project at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, Greenbelt, Md.
Rick started his career at Goddard as a co-operative education student at the University of Maryland Baltimore County, Md. close to three decades ago. Rick has 31 years of Goddard experience with 19 of those in program/project management.

Rick has been the Webb telescope Business Manager since August 2007. Prior to working on the Webb telescope project, he served as the Program Business Manager for the Earth Observing System (EOS) Program, overseeing a multitude of projects including planning and development for the NPOESS Preparatory Project (NPP) , the Landsat Data Continuity Mission (LDCM), The Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM) mission, and Glory, as well as 10 plus operational projects managed under the Earth Science Mission Operations (ESMO) Project.
Previous experience includes Deputy Project Manager/Resources (DPMR) for both the Hubble Space Telescope Development Project as well as the Hubble Operations and Ground System Development Project. Prior to Hubble he served as the DPMR for the International Solar Terrestrial Physics Project managing such projects as the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO), Cluster, and the Polar, Wind and Geotail Projects.
Rick also led the Management and Resources Control Office for the early design and cost activities associated with the planned Goddard portions of the International Space Station. He has served on various center committees and panels and has been a mentor in the Project Management Development Emprise (PMDE) program for close to 10 years. Outside of work, Rick enjoys spending time with his three children.
