Pilot Program

The pilot effort for Worlds Beyond ran from September 2006-June 2007.  Several Washington, DC-area students and their teachers and families participated in the effort.  The participants responded to this project with great enthusiasm.  The art projects and written descriptions highlighted their understanding of the topic gained by participating in this effort.

Participants included:

• St. Hugh's Middle School, Greenbelt, MD
• Harper's Choice Middle School, Columbia, MD
• Parkland Aerospace and Technology Magnet Middle School, Rockville, MD
• Southeast Middle School, Baltimore, MD
• The Persing, Strouse, Miller, Johnson, Guidry, Morris, and Newman families

A permanent installation of the projects from the pilot was unveiled at the Goddard Visitor Center during an opening reception in June 2007.  The mounts for the poles were distributed so that their locations represent an accurate projection of the distribution of extra-solar systems relative to Earth.
