Mark Voyton
integrated science instrument module (ISIM) manager and optical telescope and ISIM (OTIS) manager

Mark Voyton is the Integrated Science Instrument Module (ISIM) Manager, and the Optical Telescope and ISIM (OTIS) Manager for James Webb Space Telescope at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland. As the OTIS Manager, Mark is responsible for the integration and testing of the OTIS, which includes the flight integration, the vibration and acoustic testing, and the cryogenic vacuum testing of the optical portion of observatory.

Voyton's career with NASA began in 1992. He worked on several Small Explorers (SMEX) missions, including the Submillimeter Wave Astronomy Satellite (SWAS), the Transition Region and Coronal Explorer (TRACE), and the Wide Field Infrared Explorer (WIRE). He also worked on several Medium-Class Explorers (MIDEX) missions, including as an avionics engineer on the Swift Gamma Ray Burst Explorer (Swift).

Voyton joined the Webb mission in 2002 and has held multiple positions on the project. As the ISIM Command and Data Handling Manager (from 2002 to 2008), he led the development of the ISIM Command and Data Handling System. As the ISIM Test Support Systems Manager (from 2006 to 2008), he led the design and development of the systems used to test the ISIM and spacecraft avionics.

Voyton began working as the ISIM Deputy Manager in 2008 and accepted his current position as the OTIS Manager in 2014. Voyton's favorite part of working on the Webb team has been the opportunity to work with an “absolutely amazing team of extraordinarily talented and dedicated people.”

Voyton has received NASA's Outstanding Leadership Medal and Robert H. Goddard Honor Award for exceptional achievement in engineering and management. Voyton has a B.S. in Engineering Science from Loyola University in Maryland (1985) and an M.S. in Technical Management from Johns Hopkins University in Maryland (1996).

Voyton enjoys spending time outdoors, including biking and hiking with his family.
